The main phone line hasn't been working since I got back (everyone in my family was away this past weekend) so I'm hanging around waiting for the BT man to show up. That gives me some time to say about my week. Sooo....
Well, we left on Monday from Waterloo station, which has the stupidest bureau de change attendant. To change money at the station now, you apparently need official photo id. After hassling us, my mother finally figured out she had her drivers licence on her, and gave her that. Then comes...
(Lady): "I can't change you money. This card says Mrs. G... and This says Ms. G."
(Mother): "I kept my maiden name when I maried."
(L): "It's still not the same thing."
(M): "Mrs. means I'm married, and Ms. just says I'm female!"
(L): "Mrs. and Miss aren't the same."
(M): "It doesn't say Miss, it says, Ms. which can be Mrs as well."
(L): "Not the..."
(M): "Argh... Would you rather I showed a Mr card then..." 'rolling eyes'
She ended up having to produce her health card and her marriage licence just to get a little bit of money changed!
The rest of the day was filled with stupid things, mostly me saying reallly dumb thing. Like only seconds after I'd turned my watch ahead announcing, "Wow, we've been on the train for ages!"
When we got to Paris, we bought a weekly travel card, and took the metro to the station nearest out appartment with a grocery store that would be open. We regretted that as wek dragged everything back.
The second day we called about our TV which was broken, which wouldn't have bothered us too much except we really wanted to watch the world cup. It was around then that we realised our neighbour, across the courtyard and one floor down was watching the television. By the end of the day, when we got back in we realised that was about all he ever did, and christened him 'Monsieur Television."
After the second day, where we mostly stayed in the area and slept from late in the afternoon because we were dead tired, we were watching (one of) the world cup football matches in the morning and being tourists the rest of the day. With the expection of the Louvre, which we saw from the outside and two of us had already vistsed, we visited most of the big sites that we could think of.
Yesterday was mostly last minute clearing out, because we mostly packed up sunday night. The only thing we needed to buy still was a little box for our Fimo creatures (We bought some Fimo at an art store on Wednesday.)
Then it was back on the train here, for what feels like one of the shortest weeks ever.
Oh, BT man is, here now...
