mixed blessings

What a day of mixed blessings. When Nicole Kidman, in an interview, said that the good things come hand in hand with the bad she couldn’t have been more right.

After my early wake-up today, I got a thick package in the mail (special delivery!) from a university; the University of Western Ontario to be exact. I got an offer. Grades must be no lower than 4 points at standard level, and 5 at higher level, with a score of at least 28 to go right into year 2. Added was the $8 000 scholarship if I keep up my grades.

I was floored. Wow.

On the flip side, I have a lot of work due this week. I managed to forget that February is a short month, and a lot of what I thought was due on Monday is due Friday. We were assigned a math test first period. Second class I found out that an essay the teacher had mentioned the Monday before the break, is due Monday. Turns out I’d missed that one while home sick. So the workload stands:

Due Friday

Business project (approximately %50 done)

Math test

Due Monday

ITGS portfolio essay (still to find a topic)

ITGS project (Criterion V to be rewritten, still to write X and W, plus content editing (the website has got grammatical errors left right and centre))

While maybe it doesn’t seem as much written like that, it feels enormous. In light of the good news however I feel like maybe all the work is paying off.

Congratulations with the offers from Western Ontario. Do you know how good the university is? Don't worry about the work, only 2 more weeks and it will all be done.

It's a good university. I visited it over the summer, so I got to have a look around and such. Even though I'm not sure my choice, this was really encouraging.

What are these two stars all about ? Do you take part in a kind of contest ? Where can I find the results ? Why does the page change to Times New Roman after the vote ? And what's the meaning of "Karma: 3" ?

Lol. I can't slip stuff by anyone can I? The stars were karma votes (positive or negative depending on what you thought of the entry.) It's not staying though. As you noticed the link takes you to blog minus the php design.

Basically because it thinks:

directory="www.divingrocks.net file: "/blog.html"

When it is actually:

adress= "divingrocks.net/index.php?z= file="blog.html"

Unless I switch to a non-php design, then karma voting has to go.

As for the 3 it meant 3 positive votes!

What a pity ! The stars are gone again. I just wanted to choose the blue star. Not because of the quality but to check the result: Will it be "Karma 3" again or rather "Karma 4/1" ? I'll never know...

Well you couldn't vote on any entry twice, but basically a purple star would have increased the karma on the post by one, and of the site overall by one, a blue star would have had a negative effect:

Ie. If it was a 3 on one entry, and the blue start was clicked the karma would show as 2.

You're right though, I would have seen both counts 3 / 1.
