computer
It's always nice outside when I'm stuck on hold.
I got an e-mail about my computer order, telling me that they cancelled it, but with no explanation. So I call up and end up on hold for ages, when this lady tells me they cancelled it because my name isn't the same as my mother's name (It was bought with her credit card, shipping to me). So I had to replace my order over the phone, which was annoying because I had to spell everything out, and I guess she wasn't hearing me right because we had so many problems.
"ebnt.."
"No. E. C as in Charlie. H as in Harry. T."
"H as in Harley."
"No. C as in Charlie and H as in Harry."
"Okay. So B. C. H. E."
"No...."
Heh, but I did get some kind of discount out of it.. So way-hey! =)

hard to right
I never realised how hard it is to write posts from a computer that isn't my own. Well, at least for so long. Or maybe it's that there isn't anything that happens here so I can't *think* of anything to write about. Or maybe I'm just lazy?
But... Yesterday after a two week 'discussion' with my parents I bought an iBook as my new computer. Since I didn't have quite enough to pay for it all myself, my parents said they'd split it but that I would have to give up completely my iMac to my mother and clear all my stuff off. She really needed a new computer because our old PC has no space on it because she keeps *all* the pictures she takes with her digital camera on it. It's insane though because it takes 10 minutes just to open a program! The iBook should be at my grandparents' house in two weeks, then we have to drive and pick it up. (We don't have an adress here, we just get general delivery into town).
Today my dad left back to London. He wasn't planning on statying here more than a weekend but on account of everything that has been happening in his life recently he was allowed the extra week and a half. Right now my mom and him are driving up to Toronto, so Andy and I are alone all day. So far it's been raining and all that's been on the one tv station is the papal mass at world youth day.
I'm thinking maybe some cards or monopoly. I feel lucky.

grandfather
Today my grandparent's drove up to their cottage (it's right next to ours). It was really great to see them. It was only a day trip because that's how long his oxygen tank lasts, but he was in good spirits because he was told yesterday that he has an (unexpected) break from the chemo until the end of September. I'm just so glad it didn't rain like the weather report said it would.

The (belated) Friday Five
Okay, so I'm a couple days late, but here's The Friday Five!
1. Where were you born? St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Canada.
2. If you still live there, where would you rather move to? If you don't live there, do you want to move back? Why or why not? I left Toronto four years ago when my father moved for work. I never really looked back much, but I am looking forward to university, and I'm moving back to Canada for that. I will admit I will miss London like crazy, but I'll be going back to visit my family and friends. Most places are as good as you make them.
3. Where in the world do you feel the safest? Depends on who I'm with. I can be downtown places late at night and feel perfectly safe, and be walking down my street alone in daylight and not feel safe. I guess I would have to say my cottage (where I am now) because nothing big, bad... really anything at all, happens here, so all I've got are good memories. =)
4. Do you feel you are well-traveled? Yes. I've been lucky in that I've been able to travel with my dad when he works, so I've gotten to see places that I never would have seen, or even dreamed of visiting before we moved.
5. Where is the most interesting place you've been? Paris. There is just so much to do there it's crazy.

poor foot
Ouch. Got a phone call from a friend in London today. Only when he called I was in bed, so sleepily I slid out of the top bunk, tripped over some of my brothers wet clothes and hit my foot on a vacuum cleaner taking all the skin off the end of one of my toes. Good thing the phone was on hold then, because I was swearing like a sailor (and I don't have a 'foul' mouth). I've got bandaids on it, and declined the evening walk, but it's feeling a bit better now. I agree with my friend when he said that it was such a me thing to do. Heh.

Laundry
At the coin laundry, I guess no one had the right change with them, because people kept coming in from the newsagent nextdoor carrying little sweets (from breaking money). There were three Mentos people, two bubble gum people and one with Certs.
Sometimes it's the little things.

summer
Wow... Seems like ages since I've been on a computer. The one I was counting on using for the past week was out of operation, so no posts. In review, the weekend at university was good fun. Since I was on still on London time, and was in bed (as predicted) before the evening activities started, my room-mate went out and told everyone that she was sharing a room with a 'British girl'. The rest of the weekend my ears should have been ringing because I was being approached (even in the bathrooms; it was crazy) just to find out if it was true and then to quiz me about my choice in universities. Amazingly they chose to overlook the fact that I am canadian and all that. I also made some friends and even met two people who live 5 minutes away from my cottage, who, according to my mother, I used to take swimming lessons with.
Then for the rest of the week, it was hanging out with my grandparents, which was nice although a little trying at times. That and my cousin was there for the week, while both our parents were out in Calgary for the funeral. (She's my double cousin. My mother's sister married my father's brother.)
Thursday I came up to out cottage to open it up from the winter and get things all set, which was a lot of work. I swear I was sweeping, raking and vacuuming like a mad woman while my dad and uncle slacked off putting the waterline in. =)
Today we said goodbye to my grandparents and cousin and drove up here (Bruce Penisula, Georgian Bay side), and it's so beautiful (I'll have to take some pictures with my camera tomorrow and put them up here).
Anyway, just felt like I had to post something after Grandparent-esque cabin fever. =)

I'm off
Well, I meant to add a post before I left, but we all fell a bit behind and before we knew it the taxis were here. In any case, I'm at the airport now (There's a computer in the louge with internet on it, although I swear it's like internet explorer version 1 or something... heh.) It's weird here, because the flight is early, so it's all business men with suits and laptop computers watching CNN. Other than that, it's kind of boring at the moment. On the plane it should be better because I packed a small library into my carry on.
Well there seems to be a line-up starting for the computer so I should probably be nice and give it over to someone.
I'll try to write something once I'm settled at the other end, before the weekend.

Everything
Well I think I have everything. At least I hope I do. It's crazy the stuff coming back, but at least I'm not taking the most stuff. Andy's got hockey camp so he has to bring all his kit and his big hockey bag. Only problem is I think we'll probably have to take two cabs to the airport now. In any case, I'm going to sleep now, and I'll double check in the morning because I can't even think straight.

packing
I'm such a mess with packing. A bit lastminute.com I know, but I just can't think of what I need or what I've already packed. And we leave the house at 6am tomorrow. *yawn*

Busy
Since yesterday, I've been so busy. First thing I did monday was meet up with a friend at school so we could pick up our pay from last week. What should have taken no time at all took three hours because the school couldn't decide if they could pay us in cash (or maybe they just couldn't count?) because neither of us has a bank account at the moment. After, we went for lunch , but then I had to go play tennis with my brother. It was fun until it started pouring rain, and so we ended up staying and getting soaked because Andy was determined that we had paid for the court and shouldn't waste it, but also that it was bound to stop raining 'soon' despite my pleas that we do live in London. In any case the rain stopped eventually, but the match didn't really progress any further because we were both dead tired.
When I got home I got in touch with Kings University about my application there, and had to quickly write them a letter, because thing's are so confusing with them not telling me anything until A-Level results come in the end of August, and if I don't get in that's no time to do much about it. So I spent a couple hours drafting that.
The pretty much firm plans, university wise is that I'll go to Wilfrid Laurier, back in Canada. I fly out thursday, which means I have loads to sort and pack, even though I'll probably be back here a couple of times briefly over the summer. So I started that last night, and succeed in making an organised mess of the hall outside my room.
This morning I was busy calling Laurier about this weekend (from Friday to Monday morning I'm at a discover weekend at Laurier, only it should be interesting my still being on London time. There are evening activities, but I'll be asleep before dinner and up at 3 am) and having to make my course selections. I luckily found out about those while I was on the phone, because I had apparently missed some mailings and the deadline is Friday! Speaking of which, I talked to the head of admissions and she has rewarded me with 3.0 junior credits for my I.B. results which I'm pretty happy about.
Then I took the bus down with my mother to the Strand to deliver the letter to Kings directly because I'm hoping the sooner they get it the sooner I hear back because if I move all my stuff, that's pretty much where it stays. Heh.
Other than that I've been helping clean the house from top to bottom, so when the whole family comes back at the end of August, they won't have to worry about it too much.
And now, I'm exhausted.
[P.S. Thanks for the emails =) ]

All done...
Well, my IB is offically over. I've be "award the diploma" and am free to toss out some of my notes. I have some calls to make on Monday, and some people to e-mail.
Right now, I don't know how I feel, but I don't know that I'll be on my computer to write much this weekend. We'll see. I just need to get myself sorted.

Grades
My grades 'arrive' this afternoon. I haven't really been worrying, or even thinking much about it, because there didn't seem much point. Only my mom cancelled the family's plans for today so I could check, and keeps dropping hints, it's hard just to let it be now. Now I'd be fine except I can't find the envelope with my password.

The Friday Five
A slightly late Friday Five
1. Where are you right now? At my desk, my room, London, England, Earth... And really close to bed, heh.
2. What have you lost recently? My memory? I don't remember losing anything recently. It usually turns up soon after in really stupid places (the things I lose... not my memory... )
3. What was the first CD you ever purchased? Erm... Well I used to prefer tapes, but the first CD I bought for myself was Jagged Little Pill ~ Alanis Morissette. Technically I bought the Free Willy soundtrack for someone else before that, but that wasn't my choice, so we'll ignore it.
4. What is your favorite kind of writing pen? Blue ink fountain pens. I love them, but I lost mine a while back, so I've been using plain blue ball point. Gell pens are nice but only for doddling or writing very quickly.
5. What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Well, most of the time it's chocolate chip cookie dough. A little while back I had some hazelnut ice cream which was delicious, but I've never actually seen it anywhere else.

Minority
Mmmm... Just saw Minority Report, and really liked it. I'm surprised it was rated less than A.I., which I didn't like at all, but hey...
(And if you know what I mean, I want those gloves and that screen...)

third wheel
How annoying. I can't stand working with the two of them any more.
Am I not here? Stop flirting like I wasn't. Look man, you have a girlfriend. She's working here too right now. And you, you didn't believe us when we told you, you were hugely flirting. It's enough to make me sick.
Maybe I wouldn't mind so much if you acknowledged I was here. You know, maybe ask me the questions about music, films, weather... anything that you're asking each other.
And the 'physical' flirting. Argh.
Seriously, please stop.

Towing
In the park across from my house there's 'opera in the park' most nights, which is attended by a lot of very wealthy people. Only, (we've suspised it's for money) the traffic wardens have changed the parking so that people who aren't residents of the borough aren't alowed to park on my street after 6 pm. So times like right now, there's a bunch of clampers and tow trucks ready to immobilise and take away all these nice expensive cars while people are in the opera.

Nasty
I did not get paid enough for the work I did today.
I thought removing gum from the bottom of tables was a detention job or something like that. Apparently not. Three of us were on our hands and knees scraping off gum (varying from weeks to years old...). Our record was 37 pieces under one table (heh, and that was one of mine). And by table, I mean one big enough for one person.
Blech... I am tired and grossed out, but at least I'll save some money on not buying gum.
I have tomorrow off and it's back to work again on friday.
